  • Pebbledash

Pebbledash is a coarse plaster surface used on outside walls that consists of lime and sometimes cement mixed with sand, small gravel, and often pebbles and stones. The materials are mixed into a slurry and are then thrown at the working surface with a trowel or scoop. The idea is to maintain an even spread, free from lumps, ridges or runs and without missing any surface. This like exterior render, acts as a defense to the elements and also gives a nice finish to the building.

  • Exterior Render

An external render is, in its most basic form, a coating applied to the walls of a building, to provide a protective coating which would prevent rain penetration. It also acts as a decorative finish to enhance the appearance of a building.

  • Plastering/Skimming

Plasterers skim coat by laying a thin, smooth layer of joint compound. Skimming is a texturing technique used to make a wall smooth. Plasterers use this technique to hide imperfections, to give the wall a plaster-like appearance and in situations when only the smoothest surface will do.

  • Coving

Coving or cove is a concave surface well known in Great Britain from the Victorian period, followed by the Edwardian era and Georgian neo-classic times and art-deco, made from Plaster of Paris (gypsum), forming a cornice between a ceiling and a wall. A great decorative finish.

  • Tacking/Dot+Dab

In preperation to older refurbished or new walls, plasterboard is tacked to exisiting surface prior to plastering. Dot and dab, or direct bond, method - which basically means the plasterboard is glued to the wall with large dollops of adhesive.
